Ben McLachlan Named Pac-12 Player of the Week

BERKELEY – California senior Ben McLachlan was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week on Tuesday, the conference office announced. The Golden Bear was honored for spurring the then 19th-ranked California Golden Bears – who are now ranked 16th – to a pair of 4-0 conference wins at home to improve Cal’s record to 14-5 overall and 4-2 in the Pac-12.
Against No. 39 Oregon on April 11 at the Hellman Tennis Complex, the senior captain paired with freshman Andre Goransson to pull out a tight, 8-7(6), win over Daan Maasland/Joey Swaysland and clinch the doubles point. McLachlan, then-ranked 69th in singles, posted a 7-5, 6-2 win over No. 59 Robin Cambier as the Bears won, 4-0, over the Ducks.
One day later on Jim McManus Legends Day at Hellman, McLachlan and Goransson beat UW’s Viktor Farkas/Max Manthou, 8-6, for the Bears, who went on to clinch the doubles point. In singles, McLachlan held a one-set lead on the Huskies’ Emmett Egger when Cal won the overall contest, 4-0, and his match was abandoned.
McLachlan, ranked 56th in singles and No. 84 in doubles with Goransson this week, will play in his final regular-season home match at 1 p.m. on Saturday, when Cal hosts No. 37 Stanford in the Big Slam at Hellman.
