Men’s Golf Prepared For Pac-12 Championship
CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Oregon State men’s golf team will compete for the conference title Friday through Sunday at the 2014 Pac-12 Championship in Marana, Ariz.
The best action from all three days of the Pac-12 Championship will be packed into one hour at 11 a.m. PT on Sunday, May 11 on the Pac-12 Networks and online via Pac-12 Now.

FIELD (Golfstat ranking in parenthesis): Stanford (3), California (4), Washington (11), UCLA (14), USC (20), Arizona State (25), Oregon (40), Colorado (53), Oregon State (66), Arizona (86), Washington State (98) and Utah (167).
COURSE: The tournament will be held at the par-72, 7,349-yard Gallery Golf Club. The Gallery Golf Club is located east of Marana, Ariz., and northwest of Tucson at Dove Mountain. The course is approximately seven miles east of Interstate 10 at an average elevation of 2875 feet above sea level. This is the second time the Pac-10/12 Championship will be held at the Gallery Golf Club. The first time was 2004 when Arizona won the team title and the Beavers finished eighth.
BEAVERS’ LINEUP: Oregon State will go with a lineup of senior David Fink, juniors Alex Franklin and Scott Kim, sophomores Tyler Carlson and Brian Jung and freshman Kevin Murphy. Fink, Franklin and Murphy played in all 11 tournaments this season, while Kim played in nine, Jung competed in eight and Carlson played in one as an individual. This will be the fourth Pac-12 Championship for Fink, the second for Jung and Kim, and the first for Franklin, Carlson and Murphy.
FORMAT: Three-day, 72-hole tournament with 36 holes on Friday and 18 holes on Saturday and Sunday. The top-five individuals from each six-member team with the lowest scores for each 18-hole round constitute the scoring members for that given round.
TEE TIMES: Friday’s tee times will begin at 7:30 a.m. off the first and 10th holes, followed by the second round teeing off at approximately 12:30 p.m. Tee times for Saturday and Sunday will begin at 7:30 a.m. off the first and 10th holes, with pairings decided by order of finish from the previous day.

QUOTING OREGON STATE HEAD COACH JON REEHOORN: “We’ve played pretty well our last three events. The Duck Invitational was the most complete event we have played since early in the fall. If we can play with the same level of confidence and belief like we did at the Duck Invitational, I feel really good about what we can accomplish this week. At both Chambers Bay and Ohio State we played pretty solidly, just didn’t get much out of our rounds.”
What do you know about the Gallery Golf Club?
“Zero. I’m expecting a course with large fairways, but off the fairways is trouble. It will be important to drive the ball well, keep the ball in the short grass and avoid the big numbers that can be made from the desert.”
What are your expectations against the other Pac-12 teams based on the season?
“Currently there are six teams ranked inside the top 25 in the country. If we could finish in the top six that would be a very strong result for us as we move toward the NCAA Regional Championship.”
What do you need to do this weekend to receive another bid to the NCAA Regionals?
“We need to have a strong tournament. Currently we are probably a bubble team. We have shown that we can compete with a number of teams, but have not been consistent enough throughout the year. But a selection for Regionals and how the computer rankings move is out of our control. We need to be in total control of ourselves and what we do on the golf course, and if we do that, we will be fine.”
LAST YEAR AT THE PAC-12 CHAMPIONSHIP: Oregon State got off to a shaky start in the final round of last year’s Pac-12 Championship before rallying over the final nine holes to finish in a tie for eighth place with an 86-over 368-362-380-376--1,486 at the challenging par-70, 7,236-yard Los Angeles Country Club.
California, the top-ranked team in the country, won the team title for the second consecutive year with a 6-over 1,406, while No. 3 UCLA (15-over 1,415) finished second and No. 4 Washington (32-over 1,432) was third. Max Homa of California ran away with medalist honors with a 9-under 61-70-71-69--271, which was five shots better than his teammate Michael Weaver.
David Fink had four birdies en route to a team-best 1-over 71 on the final day and concluded the tourney in a tie for 17th place, his best overall finish at a conference championship, with a 9-over 74-69-75-71--289. He finished in a tie for 35th as a freshman and a tie for 37th as a sophomore at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis.
Brian Jung posted three impressive rounds in his first collegiate postseason competition to finish in a tie for 32nd place with a 15-over 72-71-79-73--295. He recorded 10 birdies over the three days, to tie him for the most on the team, including two in the final round that helped him shoot a 3-over 73.
Nick Sherwood also carded three solid rounds on the tough golf course, but unfortunately shot a 9-over 79 in the final round that dropped him on the leaderboard. He still finished third among Oregon State golfers with an 18-over 73-74-72--79--298 for a tie for 39th place.
Nick Chianello and Matt Rawitzer each finished in a tie for 56th place with a 25-over 305 with Chianello posting scores of 74-73-81-77 and Rawitzer going 75-76-78-76. Sophomore Scott Kim, who was competing at the conference championship for the first time, wrapped up the tournament with a 33-over 78-75-76-84--313 for a tie for 66th place.
