James Earns Two Victories To Lead Cats in Pac-12 Tournament

OJAI, Calif. – No. 23 Arizona (17-5, 6-4 Pac-12) kicked off the first day of the Pac-12 Championships with three victories on Thursday.

Senior Akilah James has moved into the round of 8 with two victories. She first defeated Dajiana Oognjenovic (WSU) 6-1, 6-0. Later she took down Sophia Bott (WASH) 6-1, 6-2.

James is tabbed as the No. 4 seed in the invitational bracket of the tournament.

Freshman Lauren Marker earned a victory in the championship flight against Sarah Pham (UTAH) 6-3, 4-6, 7-6(5).

Marker lost in the round of 16 after taking the first set from No. 3 seed Anett Schutting (CAL) 3-6, 6-0, 6-2.

James will continue singles Friday at noon against the No. 1 seed Caroline Doyle of Stanford.

Doubles action is set to begin Friday morning at 9 a.m.
