@SunDevilHoops Welcomes Willie Atwood To ASU

Sun Devil basketball coach Herb Sendek has announced that Willie Atwood, a third-team junior-college All-American, has signed with Arizona State.

"Willie is athletic, can score and his motor never stops," says Coach Sendek, who has five 20-win seasons in the past seven years. "In looking at this statistics his numbers are incredible. We can't wait to get him on campus with our other newcomers and our returners. We really like what we accomplished this season in recruiting."

Atwood, a 6-foot-8 forward from Connors State College in Warner, Okla., is the nation's No. 7 junior-college prospect, and can play both forward positions. He averaged 21 points and nine rebounds last season and shot 58 percent from the field and 77 percent from the foul line.

On November 13, in a 90-87 loss to Independence CC, he posted 48 points, including 33-of-37 from the free throw line. He posted double figures in his 30 games and had a dozen double-doubles. He had 20 rebounds in a win over Seminole State College in mid-January.
