Video: Cal's Brandon Hagy voted Pac-12 Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year
Balancing athletics and school is tough, but Cal's Brandon Hagy did just that this year as the recipient of the 2014 Pac-12 Men's Golf Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. Hagy, who is currently ranked as high as the No. 4 in amateur in the world and No. 6 collegiately, holds a 3.72 GPA in business administration.
Hagy is also up for two other prestigious titles: He's a semifinalist for the Ben Hogan Award, a seasonal award given to the player best exhibiting excellence in academics and college golf. He's also a finalist for the Byron Nelson Award, which is based on a nominee’s entire collegiate academic and golf career as well as his character and integrity while in college. Hagy's teammate Joel Stalter is also up for the award.
Given Hagy's grades, performance on the course, love for community service and generally positive attitude, Cal coach Steve Desimone had only great things to say about his player.
"I've been coaching for 43 years. You might put him at the top of my list."
