Roundup: Pac-12 prospects prep for NFL draft
The NFL draft begins Thursday, so here’s an NFL draft profile of Arizona State defensive lineman Will Sutton, courtesy of Doug Haller.
Now let’s take a look at Cal’s draft prospects. John Crumpacker thinks Deandre Coleman, Richard Rodgers and Khairi Fortt have the best chance of getting drafted out of the nine draft-eligible players in Berkeley.
UW Dawg Pound says it’s prediction time: Where do you think draft-eligible Huskies will be selected?
Time to turn our heads to some Tucson folk, as the Arizona Daily Star looks at the NFL prospects for Shaq Richardson and Marquis Flowers. You could say that Richardson and Flowers hope to feel a draft this weekend.
Oregon explained why Dominic Artis and Damyean Dotson played while under investigation for rape, stating that the police asked the school to not take action at the time so as to not compromise the investigation. And while this is going on, the Ducks basketball staff and AD are eligible for bonuses for the team making the NCAA tournament and advancing to the round of 32.
This was initially brought up earlier this spring, and now University of Utah president David Pershing is backing the review of the Utah fight song. From the AP report: “Pershing is asking the Office of Student Affairs to put together a committee that will weigh changes to the song, 'Utah Man' after student government leaders and a faculty body passed resolutions urging the changes.”
Washington State football coach Mike Leach discussed libraries and his new book with Mike Yam (always fun when these two get together). Leach’s book, Geronimo: Leadership Strategies of an American Warrior, hit stores Tuesday.
This should be all sorts of fun: UCLA will participate in the CBS Sports Classic alongside basketball powerhouses Kentucky, North Carolina and Ohio State in a three-year round-robin event. The Bruins will meet Kentucky in Chicago on Dec. 20 (and then they’ll face North Carolina in Brooklyn the following December and Ohio State in Las Vegas in 2016).
The Pac-12 is considering moving the football championship game to Levi’s Stadium, the soon-to-be home of the San Francisco 49ers in Santa Clara. This would be all kinds of awesome.
With the basketball coaching change in Corvallis, Nick Faust is no longer committed to Oregon State. However, Faust being back on the market doesn’t necessarily preclude the Beavers from landing him depending on who replaces Craig Robinson.
Here is video of USC coach Steve Sarkisian talking about the Pac-12 meetings and spring football with Chantel Jennings of ESPN.
Women’s golf regional competition also begins Thursday, and Colorado is looking for redemption at the regionals following a last-place finish at the Pac-12 Championships in April. The Buffs will be in the NCAA central regional in Stillwater, Okla.
CBS Sports ranks Stanford football 10th in its post-spring top 25. Other Pac-12 teams include Oregon (No. 4), UCLA (No. 12), USC (No. 16) and Arizona State (No. 17). Five in the top 17 ain’t bad.
