Three Women’s Golfers Earn All-Academic Honors
Sewell, a senior from Renton, Wash., was selected to the Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team for her 3.46 GPA in psychology after receiving Honorable Mention recognition the past two years. She joins Margo Evashevski (1992-94), Carina Olsson (1998, 1999, 2001), Alex Lucio (2003-05), Jessi Gebhardt (2006-08) and Whitney French (2010-12) as Oregon State women’s golfers to earn conference honors for academic excellence three times.
Sewell never missed a tournament at Oregon State and just completed her fabulous college career fifth in scoring average (76.90), tied for 12th in top-10 finishes (5) and first in rounds played (134). She posted a scoring average of 75.91 this past season, the sixth best in Oregon State history.
Pickerell, a sophomore from Salem, Ore., was named Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention for the first time for her 3.22 GPA in psychology. She played in eight tournaments this past season and had a scoring average of 77.77. Pickerell shot a career-best 2-under 71 in the second round of the Pac-12 Preview and fired her first career round in red figures, a 1-under 71, on the first day of the Topy Cup in Tanagura, Japan.
Yoo, a junior from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, also earned Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention recognition for the first time for her 3.07 GPA in pre-business. She played in all 12 tournaments this past season and had a scoring average of 75.12, the best ever by a junior in Oregon State history and the second best in school history. Yoo claimed medalist honors at the Rose City Collegiate with a 2-under 142, becoming the first Oregon State golfer to win an outright individual title in 16 years. She fired four sub-par rounds and had three top-10 finishes, equaling the eighth most in Oregon State single-season history.
An Oregon State women’s golfer now earned conference all-academic honors every year since 2000 and a total of 37 times since the recognition began in 1992.
