OSU Adds Jonas Chatterton As Assistant Coach

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Jonas Chatterton, who has 12 years of experience as a Division I assistant and has been on the bench for five trips to the NCAA Tournament, has been hired as an assistant coach with Oregon State women’s basketball, Scott Rueck announced Tuesday.

“I’m pleased to be able to add someone of Jonas’ caliber to our staff,” Rueck said. “He’s experienced success everywhere he has coached, has a talent for mentoring and developing young players and shares the same vision for the Oregon State women’s basketball program. I’m very happy to welcome Jonas, Cami and their family to OSU.”

The Salt Lake City native comes to Corvallis by way of Colorado, where he was on staff for four seasons, including the last as associate head coach. During his time in Boulder, the Buffaloes won 83 total games and made postseason appearances each year, highlighted by an NCAA Tournament run in 2013. Chatterton played integral roles in recruiting, opponent scouting, post development and putting together Colorado’s offensive and defensive schemes.  

Before heading to Colorado, Chatterton spent eight highly successful seasons as an assistant coach at BYU (2001-09). While in Provo, the Cougars compiled a 157-89 record (.638), won two Mountain West Conference regular-season titles (2006-07), one MWC Tournament crown (2002) and went to the NCAA Tournament four times.

“I’m thrilled about the opportunity to join Oregon State,” Chatterton said. “Coach Rueck has the program going in an exciting direction. I hope to enhance what has already been built and I look forward to working with a great group of talented young women.”

Chatterton’s success has garnered the coach national recognition, as has been part of a select group invited to Nike’s renowned Villa 7 Consortium in 2013 and 2014, which brings together university athletics directors and the country's elite assistant coaches in an effort to prepare the next generation of college basketball leaders. Less than 10 percent of women’s basketball assistants from the nation’s nearly 350 Division I programs have received invitations to the exclusive event the past three years, which has grown to become one of the most respected gatherings for professional development and networking in the country.

Prior to joining BYU, Chatterton spent two years as an assistant men’s coach at Westminster College, an NAIA school in Salt Lake City (1998-2000) where he helped revive a program that had been discontinued in 1979.

He received his bachelor’s in exercise and sport science from the University of Utah in 2000.

Chatterton has a daughter Josie and he and his wife Cami have a daughter, Celia, and a son, Hudson.

Oregon State is coming off a record-setting season in 2013-14. The Beavers went 24-11 overall, 13-5 in the Pac-12, won their first NCAA Tournament game since 1995 and returns 95 percent of their scoring and 96 percent of their rebounds this fall.
