T&F’s Houlihan Qualifies For 800m Finals At USATF Championships

SACRAMENTO, Calif.—Arizona State track and field’s junior Shelby Houlihan ran 2:02.55 in the semifinals of the 800m run at the USATF Outdoor Championships on Friday at Hornet Stadium.

Houlihan (Sioux City, Iowa) placed fourth in the second semifinal heat, and fifth overall, which qualifies her for the finals on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. PT.

Also for ASU, former Sun Devil Amy Hastings took third in the 10,000m run on Thursday night with a time of 32:18.81. Hastings set ASU’s school record in the event in 2007 when she ran 32:30.37.

Chris Benard, the Sun Devils’ triple jump record holder, placed third in the event with a best mark of 17.10m (56-1.25), which he jumped on his third attempt.

On Saturday, redshirt junior Bryan McBride (Peoria, Ariz.) will compete in the high jump competition at 11:45 a.m. PT, while former Sun Devil Chelsea Cassulo will be in action in the hammer throw competition at 11 a.m. PT.
