Cooper Named To CFPA Defensive Lineman Watch List
PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State football defensive lineman Xavier Cooper has been named to the 2014 College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) Defensive Lineman Trophy watch list, the organization announced Tuesday.
Cooper, entering his redshirt-junior campaign for the Cougars, is one of four Pac-12 defensive linemen included on the 40-member list. The winner will be announced January 14, 2015. Former Cougar safety Deone Bucannon was named the CFPA Elite Defensive Back Trophy last season.
Cooper started all 13 games for the Cougars last season, making 50 tackles including team-highs of 13.5 tackles-for-loss and five sacks. The Tacoma, Wash. native also recovered two fumbles, forced two and scored one touchdown on a fumble return.
Cooper has also received preseason All-Pac-12 recognition from Phil Steele Magazine and Athlon Sports.
The Cougars open their 2014 season Thursday, Aug. 28 against Rutgers in The Seattle Game at CenturyLink Field.
