Murphy Opens Competition At Men’s World Rowing U23 Championships

Varese, Italy Sophomore Justin Murphy was the first Golden Bear to begin competition at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Varese, Italy on Wednesday. He is one of eight members of the California men’s crew program rowing in the prestigious event. Action continues with heat racing on Thursday, culminating with the Finals on Sunday, July 27.    

Murphy served as the stroke for the United States men’s four that placed third in its heat with a time of 6:05.38. Italy took the heat with a time of 6:00.06.

Action picks up on Thursday with seven additional Golden Bears – Spencer Hall (U.S. M8+), Cole Reiser (U.S. M2-), Jordan Vanderstoep (U.S. M2-), Morgan Hellen (Great Britain M8+), Louis Snelson (Australia M8+), Aaron Wright (Australia M8+), and Niki Van Sprang (Netherlands M8+) – beginning competition.
