Men’s Four and Men’s Pair In Action At World Rowing U23 Championships
Varese, Italy – The United States men’s four and men’s pair, featuring three Golden Bears, highlighted the action on Saturday at the World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Varese, Italy.
The United States men’s pair of Golden Bears Jordan Vanderstoep (stoke) and Cole Reiser (bow) finished fourth in Saturday’s semifinals with a time of 6:47.36. Serbia captured the race with a time of 6:44.13.
Sophomore Justin Murphy, who was voted the Pac-12 Men’s Crew Newcomer of the Year and rowed in Cal’s freshman eight this past season, served as the stroke for the United States Men’s Four. The United States placed sixth in Saturday’s A final with a time of 6:00.42. Italy captured the gold with a time of 5:55.37.
Several Golden Bears will row in the men’s eight in Sunday’s final day of competition.
The United States men’s eight, featuring Cal’s Spencer Hall (five-seat), and Australia men’s eight, featuring Golden Bears Louis Snelson (five-seat) and Aaron Wright (six-seat) already advanced with their performance in Thursday’s heats.
Great Britain, with Cal’s Morgan Hellen (five-seat) won Friday’s repechage with a time of 5:36.14 to advance.
