Cal Football Notebook – August 16, 2014
BERKELEY – The Cal football team conducted its 16th practice of 2014 training camp with a workout that included a scrimmage Saturday on Kabam Field at California Memorial Stadium. A busy day continued after the workout with a team photo session and cookout before a special team screening of Don’t Quit: The Joe Roth Story on Saturday evening in the Field Club.
A few of notes and highlights from the day included ...
- A 54-yard touchdown run from Luke Rubenzer during the scrimmage portion of the practice
- A pair of touchdown passes while the club was working in overtime situations, the first an 18-yard connection from Jared Goff to Daniel Lasco followed by a three-yard hookup from Rubenzer to Matt Rockett
- Big defensive plays from Jonathan Johnson (pass breakup at line of scrimmage) and Cameron Walker (tackle for loss)
- Offensive coordinator Tony Franklin taking the ALS ice bucket challenge
Following Saturday’s series of activities the Golden Bears were rewarded with a day off Sunday, the first since they reported for training camp August 3. Cal is scheduled to return to practice Monday and begin its final week of training camp with a workout open to the public beginning at 3:30 p.m. Training camp will conclude with Golden Bear Day presented by Bug Zappers Pest Control at Kabam Field at California Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 23 (2-4 p.m. PT). The Bears open the 2014 campaign Aug. 30 at Northwestern and will host six games on Kabam Field at California Memorial Stadium this season, starting with the home opener Sept. 6 vs. Sacramento State. In addition, Cal will play Oregon on Friday, Oct. 24 at Levi's® Stadium in Santa Clara.
