Roundup: Anu Solomon is National Freshman of the Week

Arizona Athletics

Arizona

Kudos to Arizona quarterback Anu Solomon, who was named National Freshman of the Week by Athlon Sports. In another Wildcat link, it wasn’t the prettiest of performances for this position group (at least in the first half) against UNLV, so Arizona cornerback Jarvis McCall and the other cornerbacks are working to improve (and they did have a much better second half).

UCLA

Tough break for the Bruins, as UCLA running back Steven Manfro tore his ACL at the end of Tuesday’s practice and is out for the year. Also, UCLA offensive line coach Adrian Klemm was not happy with the performance of the line against Virginia’s defensive front.

USC

USC quarterback Cody Kessler had to miss part of Tuesday’s practice to have a procedure done on his toe, but he still plans on playing against Stanford on Saturday afternoon.

Oregon

Chantel Jennings writes that Oregon must learn from its mistakes in its losses last year in order to topple Michigan State Saturday in Eugene. We’ll be talking about this game all week, y’all.

Stanford

There was a big brew-ha-ha between these coaches last year when Stanford narrowly edged Washington, but Kyle Bonagura says that David Shaw and Steve Sarkisian have gotten past feuding over alleged fake injuries. Also, Nicole Auerbach of USA Today features the Stanford offensive line.

Oregon State

Good info included in this link, as Gina Mizell breaks down Oregon State’s red zone offense against Portland State. It wasn’t pretty for the Beavs in that part of the field last Saturday (one TD in nine trips).

Washington

Unfortunately my free clicks on the Seattle Times ran out for the time being, but Adam Jude is always worth a read, including this story on Washington receiver John Ross playing for his family.

Utah

With its up-tempo offense, Utah wants to score touchdowns as fast as possible, Dirk Facer notes. The Utes had four touchdown drives of 2:16 or shorter against Idaho State in the season opener.

Washington State

Jacob Thorpe gives us the names of new faces on the Washington State football team; walk-ons who were added to the roster after classes started.

Colorado

With the Rocky Mountain Showdown loss in the rearview mirror, Colorado is looking to regroup against UMASS. Tough to travel cross-country and win (see UCLA-Virginia).

Arizona State

Let’s take a closer look at the New Mexico Lobos with this Arizona Republic slideshow, Sun Devil fan.

California

Jon Wilner grades Cal’s 31-24 victory over Northwestern. A well-earned “A-“ for this bunch.
