Marrazzo’s First Career Goal Isn’t Enough at Indiana
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – California sophomore Monica Marrazzo scored her first career goal to open the scoring in Friday afternoon’s game at Indiana, but the Hoosiers proceeded to score two goals in each half to take a 4-1 victory on a hot and humid day at the IU Field Hockey Complex.
Marrazzo raced into the scoring area from the right flank and slotted her shot to the far post to put the Golden Bears (1-2) ahead just 16:23 into the game.
Playing their first home game of the season, the Hoosiers were able to tie the game in the 29th minute and took the lead with a shot off of a penalty corner in the 34th minute to sneak into halftime with a 2-1 advantage. Second half goals in the 54th and 60th minutes led to the final tally.
Redshirt senior Courtney Hendrickson made two saves on the day in 60 minutes of action, while redshirt freshman Kori Griswold made her first career appearance by playing the last 10 minutes in goal for California.
The Bears play Ohio University tomorrow at 9 am(PT) at the Indiana University Field Hockey Complex in Bloomington.
