Wildcats to Open Season at Southwestern Intercollegiate

Sep 5, 2014

The University of Arizona men’s golf team will get its 2014-15 season under way Monday when it takes part in the Southwestern Intercollegiate in Westlake, Calif. just outside of Los Angeles.

Teams will play 36 holes of stroke-play competition on Monday at North Ranch Golf Course before finishing up with 18 holes on Tuesday.

“I think any time you have a chance to start a new season there’s no doubt that there’s excitement there,” UA head coach Jim Anderson said. “It’s going to be important for us to corral that excitement, make sure that it’s constructive, but there’s not getting around the fact that we’ve been waiting for this day for quite a while.”

Arizona will head to southern California with a lineup of freshman George Cunningham in the No. 1 position, Senior Alex McMahon at No. 2, senior Brenden Redfern at No. 3, freshman Peter Koo at No. 4 and freshman Max Donohue at the 5 spot. Senior Ricky Lee will participate as an individual for Arizona.

McMahon was second on the team a year ago with a 73.03 scoring average while posting career highs with four top-10 finishes and 18 rounds at par or better.

”I’m looking for our guys to compete from the beginning to the end and carry themselves like professionals,” Coach Anderson said. We’ve worked very hard and those are the expectations for our team. We’re going to build a solid game plan and we’re going to execute it to the best of out ability.”

Live scoring for the Southwestern Intercollegiate will not be available, but results will be posted at arizonawildcats.com at the end of each day. Follow @UAWildcatsGolf on Twitter and visit arizonawildcats.com for all the latest information on the program.
