Men’s Golf Travels Across the Cascades

THIS WEEK:  The Washington State University men’s golf team travels to Bremerton, Wash., to compete in the Husky Invitational Sept. 22-23.

THE TOURNAMENT:  Teams will compete on Gold Mountain Golf Club’s 7,179-yard Olympic Course at par-71…competition begins at 7:20 a.m. Monday with 36 holes of continuous play…the final 18 holes will be played Tuesday…individuals competing in a separate tournament will be playing the Cascade Course at Gold Mountain...Cascade Course plays at par-71 and is a 6,707-yard track.

THE FIELD: Joining host Washington in the 15-team field will be BYU, Gonzaga, New Mexico, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine, Sacramento State, Saint Mary’s, San Diego State, Seattle, UC Davis, UCLA, Utah, and Washington State.

REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougar men will be freshman Derek Bayley, redshirt-senior Sang Lee, senior Charlie Mroz, junior Evan Omelia, and redshirt-senior Alex Wagner…also playing as individuals will be senior Michael Anderson, freshman Zach Anderson, sophomore Nick Mandell, freshman Brian Mogg, and junior Bhurinat Songpaiboon.

COACH CLEGG SAYS: “We are excited to play in the second tournament.  Most of our players have played Gold Mountain and they are excited to see how we can do in a great field!  We have had some time to prepare and it should be a fun week.  For us to succeed we will need each of our five players contributing.”

LAST TIME AT THE HUSKY INVITATIONAL: Junior Michael Anderson tied for second in the tournament, shooting 5-under par (211) to finish six strokes back from tournament champion Cheng-Tsung Pan of Washington…the Cougars finished in 11th place, carding an 880 (+16)…redshirt-junior Sang Lee carded a 220 (+4) and tied for 28th…senior Blake Snyder tied for 32nd (+5, 221).

COACHING STAFF:  Washington State is led by Head Coach Garrett Clegg in his fourth season as the mentor for the Cougars…a native of Bountiful, Utah, Clegg was an assistant coach at Washington for four seasons prior to his arrival at WSU…the Cougars are assisted by WSU alumnus Dustin White in his second season…White competed for the Cougars from 1999-2003.
