Women’s Golf Opens Season at Home

THIS WEEK:  The Washington State University women’s golf team tees off its 2014-15 season hosting the WSU Cougar Cup Sept. 22-23, at Washington State University’s Palouse Ridge Golf Club.

THE TOURNAMENT:  Washington State University’s Palouse Ridge Golf Club is WSU’s championship-level course located on campus…track will play at par 72 and 6,200 yards for the women’s tournament…opened in Aug. 2008, the course has played host to the 2012 Pac-12 Women’s Golf Championship and the 2013 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Championships Pullman Regional.

THE FIELD: Joining host Washington State in the 10-team field will be BYU, Eastern Washington, Idaho, Montana, Montana State, Portland State, Sacramento State, Santa Clara, and Seattle.

THIS YEAR’S COUGARS: The Cougars return six golfers for their 2014-15 campaign…led by seniors Lindsay Harmon and Kristen Rue…WSU welcomes three fresh faces to the team, including freshmen Alivia Brown, Jamie Midkiff, and BreeLin Wanderscheid.

REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougar women will be freshman Alivia Brown, senior Lindsay Harmon, junior Rachel Lewis, senior Kristen Rue, and freshman BreeLin Wanderscheid…also playing as individuals will be junior Monica Huang, freshman Jamie Midkiff, sophomore Cherokee Kim, and junior Nani Yanagi.

COACH KAMIMURA SAYS: “We are excited to get the season started at home. We’ve been working hard and look forward to having a good week.”

LAST TIME AT THE COUGAR CUP: Senior Mallory Kent shot 4-under par (212) to claim the individual title and lead Washington State to its third Cougar Cup title in the event’s six-year history…the Cougars carded an 886 (+22), 12 strokes ahead of second-place Gonzaga…junior Kristen Rue and sophomore Rachel Lewis finished 6-over (222) to tie for fourth place.

COACHING STAFF:  Washington State is led by Head Coach Kelli Kamimura in her fifth season…a native of Burlington, Wash., Kamimura spent six seasons with Pepperdone prior to her arrival at WSU…the Cougars are assisted by WSU alumna Emma Betland in her first season…Betland competed for the Cougars from 2010-13.
