Pac-12 announces women's soccer players of the week

SAN FRANCISCO - The Pac-12 Conference announced today the Women’s Soccer Players of the Week for the week of Oct. 6-12. UCLA swept the honors, as Annie Alvarado was voted Offensive Player of the Week, while Ally Courtnall was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week and Katelyn Rowland was named Goalkeeper of the Week for the second time in a row and third time this season.

Annie Alvarado (Newport Beach, Calif.) was a staple in the UCLA offense as the Bruins handed No. 3 STANFORD its first loss of the season, 2-1. Alvarado assisted on the game-tying goal in the 77th minute, threading the ball to teammate Ally Courtnall along the right side, then scored her first career goal in the 85th minute on an assist from Sam Mewis to propel UCLA to victory. The win extended UCLA’s unbeaten streak to a school-record 34 games. UCLA is just one of two remaining unbeaten teams in Division I with an 11-0-2 record.

Ally Courtnall (Torrance, Calif.) scored the first goal for the Bruins to tie the game against Stanford. Defensively, Courtnall used her speed to thwart multiple scoring opportunities for the Cardinal, including one in the 21st minute when she slowed down a Stanford fast break and helped set up a steal for teammate Abby Dahlkemper. The senior defender recorded two total shots in the contest.

Katelyn Rowland (Vacaville, Calif.) made three crucial saves in a match between the top two goalkeepers in goals-against average in the Pac-12. She made an impressive diving save on a free kick in the 40th minute and stopped a potential game-tying shot in the 86th minute to secure the 2-1 win over the Cardinal. The senior now has 181 saves over the course of her career, the third-most in UCLA history, and the victory was the 63rd of her career which is second-most in UCLA record books.

UCLA stays home to face Arizona on Friday, Oct. 17 at 7 p.m. PT in its lone match of the week. For more information, including a complete schedule, visit www.pac-12.com
