Chelsea Goodacre Drives in 12 in Arizona’s Sweep
TUCSON, Ariz. – Chelsea Goodacre drove in 12 runs, leading Arizona to a sweep of Arizona Western and Central Arizona in day two of the Arizona Fall Invitational. The Cats downed Arizona Western 12-0 before defeating Central Arizona 10-0 on Saturday at Hillenbrand Stadium. Both games were cut short by the mercy rule.
Goodacre hit two home runs, including a walkoff three-run homer in game 1 on top of Gittings Gym, a three-story structure beyond right field.
Arizona’s effort in the circle was superb as well, pitching a pair of strikeouts and allowing five total hits in the two games. It is the third straight shutout for Arizona’s pitching staff, which hurled a combined no-hitter on Friday night. UA pitchers struck out 13 batters in a combined 11 innings pitched, including a team-best five strikeouts (despite facing just seven batters).
Michelle Floyd hurled three innings of one-hit ball with one strikeout and Trish Parks added four innings allowing two hits with four strikeouts.
Siera Phillips then made her UA pitching debut and faced one over the minimum in two innings pitched. Phillips struck out three in her outing and the only baserunner she allowed was via a bunt single.
Hallie Wilson went a combined 5-for-7 at the dish, including three doubles vs. Central Arizona, the final of which, an RBI double in the sixth inning vs. Central Arizona, ended the game.
Katiyana Mauga homered, a part of her 2-for-3 effort in game 2. The sophomore registered two RBI.
Arizona concludes the Fall Invitational on Sunday with games at 3 and 5 vs. Cypress and Pima, respectively.
