Women’s Golf Looks to Hit the Jackpot in Vegas

THIS WEEK:  The Washington State University women’s golf team travels to the desert for the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in Boulder City, Nev., Oct. 26-28, at the Boulder Creek Golf Club.

THE TOURNAMENT: The tournament will play across two courses at the Boulder Creek Golf Club…the Desert Hawk Course will play as the front nine…the Coyote Run Course will play as the back nine…combined the course will play at par 72 and 6,230 yards…teams will play 18 holes each day beginning at 7:30 a.m. Sunday…the second round also begins at 7:30 a.m. Monday…the final round, played Tuesday, will begin at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start.

THE FIELD: The 2014 Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown consists of 18 teams including host UNLV. Join­ing the Rebels will be Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Idaho, Indiana, Long Beach State, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Mexico State, North Texas, San Diego State, San Francisco, San Jose State, Tulsa, UC Riverside and Washington State.

COACH KAMIMURA ON THE TOURNAMENT: “We’ve had a great week of practice and are ready to compete at UNLV this weekend.”

REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougar women will be freshman Alivia Brown, senior Lindsay Harmon, senior Kristen Rue, freshman Bree Wanderscheid, and junior Nani Yanagi…junior Rachel Lewis will also travel and compete as an individual.

LAST TIME AT THE LAS VEGAS COLLEGIATE SHOWDOWN: The Cougars traveled to Las Vegas for the 2012 Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown, Oct. 21-23, 2012…then-senior and current assistant coach Emma Betland led Washington State, finishing tied for 33rd…Betland carded a three-round 229 (+13), including a second-round 73 (+1)…then-sophomore Kristen Rue matched Betland 73, shooting 1-over in the final round, and tied for 42nd…the Cougars finished 15th in the 18-team field.

COACHING STAFF:  Washington State is led by Head Coach Kelli Kamimura in her fifth season…a native of Burlington, Wash., Kamimura spent six seasons with Pepperdine prior to her arrival at WSU…the Cougars are assisted by WSU alumna Emma Betland in her first season…Betland competed for the Cougars from 2010-13.
