Zane Gonzalez kicks ASU to overtime win over Utah
Utah kicker Andy Phillips is widely recognized as one of the best in the biz, but it was Arizona State’s Zane Gonzalez who stole the show in Tempe by hitting a game-winning, 36-yard field goal that kicked the Sun Devils past Utah, 19-16, in overtime.
After Phillips missed from 35 yards out on Utah’s overtime possession, Arizona State took over and set Gonzalez up to send the Sun Devils to a 7-1 record. He didn’t disappoint.
After the game, ASU coach Todd Graham told FOX Sports 1 sideline reporter Kris Budden that the Sun Devils like to think that they have the best kicker in college football.
At 5-1 in conference play, Arizona State is in sole possession of first place in the Pac-12 South. And after Gonzalez made the play that the highly-touted Phillips couldn't, perhaps Graham has an argument.
