Trevor Yu Signs NLI With Men’s Golf
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Trevor Yu has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the Oregon State men’s golf program for the 2015-16 season, head coach Jon Reehoorn announced Thursday.
Yu, a native of Vancouver, British Columbia, is a four-time Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) champion and represented Team BC at the 2014 Eddie Hogan Cup and Team Canada at the 2013 Aaron Baddeley International Junior Championship (IBIJC) in China.
“For a couple of years Trevor has been someone we have been watching because of his ability to shoot low scores on a consistent basis in B.C. has proven he knows how to win golf tournaments,” Reehoorn said. "He brings a strong work ethic from a very demanding academic institution, which I hope will allow for him to make an easy transition to college and allow for making the jump to the Pac-12 level even easier."
Yu, who currently attends St. John’s School, won the individual titles at the 2014 CN Future Links Western, the 2012 Canadian Juvenile and 2011 BC Juvenile, and helped Team Canada win the gold medal at the 2013 Canada Summer Games. Individually, he also finished second at both the 2014 BC Junior and 2012 BC Juvenile, and fourth at the 2013 Canada Summer Games, 2013 BC Junior and 2013 BC Juvenile.
Academically, Yu has been a member of the honor roll, was selected to the Headmaster’s List two times and received the English Top Student Award and Enriched Math Top Student Award.
Yu chose Oregon State because “I knew that Oregon State was a perfect fit the moment I stepped onto campus and met with the coaches and players. The attitude for success, camaraderie, and emphasis on skill development is what makes Oregon State such a special place. It’s an environment that I am very grateful to be a part of.”
