Women’s Golf Signs Two Southern California Standouts

Nov 13, 2014

The UCLA women’s golf program has signed a pair of Southern California standouts, Hall of Fame Head Coach Carrie Forsyth announced Thursday.

Lilia Vu (Fountain Valley) and Bethany Wu (Diamond Bar) signed National Letters of Intent this week and are expected to enroll in the fall of 2015.

“We are thrilled to have two of the top players in the class of 2015 sign letters of intent to Ucla,” said Forsyth. “Bethany Wu and Lilia Vu represent the future of UCLA women's golf and it has never looked brighter. Both have amassed numerous tournament wins during their junior careers and have excelled in national amateur events. In addition, they are excellent students and people, and we are proud to call them Bruins”

Vu, a two-time AJGA All-American, was ranked as high as 19th in the last year among junior players. In 2013, she recorded Top 10 results in all six of her AJGA starts, including a victory at the AJGA Junior at Robinson Ranch (69-69-71—209, -4). She also finished sixth in the Rolex Tournament of Champions (69-71-70-76—286, +6). In USGA competition this year, Vu tied for eighth in stroke play (72-71—143, -1) at the U.S. Girls Junior Championship before advancing to the Round of 64 in match play. In 2013, she advanced to the Round of 16 at the same event after placing second in stroke play (68-71—139, -5).

Wu is a three-time AJGA All-American who was ranked as high as No.3 in the last 12 months. On the AJGA circuit, she became the only back-to-back winner of the ANNIKA Invitational after capturing the title in 2013 and 2014. She also recorded second place results at the Yani Tseng Invitational and the Junior PGA Championship. In addition, she was a member of the Wyndham Cup and Jr. Ryder Cup teams, the latter of which won the title. In 2014 USGA competition, she won the stroke play portion of the U.S. Women’s Amateur with scores of 69-68—137 (-3) and advanced to the Round of 64. Earlier in the summer, she tied for fourth at the U.S. Girls Junior Championship with scores of 74-68—142 (-2) before advancing to the quarterfinals.
