NCAA women's volleyball scores for Dec. 4

Pac-12 women's volleyball teams went first round of the NCAA tournament Thursday night, with victories posted by Arizona, Arizona State and Oregon. 

Arizona State

The Forks advanced out of the first round with an impressive 3-1 victory over Texas A&M in Longhorn country by taking the final three sets (22-25, 25-20, 25-16, 25-22). Three-time all-Pac-12 outside hitter Macey Gardner led the way with a blistering 24 kills and seven digs, while setter Bianca Arellano recorded a double-double with 48 assists and 11 digs. The Sun Devils hit .264 as a team while holding the Aggies to a .180 attacking mark. The Sun Devils will face the winner of Texas and Northwestern State Friday at 6 p.m. PT/7 p.m. MT in Austin.

Arizona

Arizona has also clinched a ticket to the round of 32 with a three-set sweep of Yale at the McKale Center (25-12, 25-17, 25-19). All-Pac-12 outside hitter Madi Kingdon notched a double-double with 18 kills and 14 digs and hit a crisp .410 to boot. Senior middle blocker Rachel Rhoades was stout defensively, collecting six blocks. Arizona hit .300 as a team, while the Bulldogs hit just .081. Arizona is now 10-0 in NCAA tournament games played in Tucson. Arizona will play BYU in the second round Friday at 4:30 p.m. PT/5:30 p.m. MT; the Cougars defeated Seton Hall in three sets in their first-round game.

Oregon

The Ducks matched Arizona's sweep with a three-setter of their own, taking out Santa Clara 25-15, 25-17, 25-16. It was all-Pac-12 outside hitter Martenne Bettendorf's night, as the junior notched 12 kills (on .478 attacking with just one error) and 10 blocks. Senior middle blocker Serena Warner also went to town on the Broncos by racking up 13 blocks to go along with five kills in just eight attempts with no errors (.625 hitting percentage). The Ducks dominated the net and outhit the Broncos .367-.057 for the match. The 10th-seeded Ducks move on to battle LSU in the second round; the Tigers swept Oklahoma prior to Oregon's nightcap victory.
