Beavers at Reno Tournament of Champions

The 17th-ranked Oregon State wrestling team will compete in the Reno Tournament of Champions this Sunday in Reno, Nev.

Action starts at 9 a.m. PST; the championship and consolation finals matches begin at 6 p.m.

Billed by the organizers as “the toughest tournament in the USA, the field includes the Beavers; Pacific-12 Conference opponents Stanford, Arizona State, Cal Poly, Boise State and Cal State-Bakersfield, and Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Ohio University, Wyoming and Utah Valley.

Also competing are Adams State, Clackamas Community College, Colorado Mesa University, Grand Canyon, Menlo College, Minnesota State-Mankato, Montana State-Northern, Simon Fraser, Southern Oregon and Upper Iowa.

It’s the penultimate competition of the calendar year for the Beavers (3-0, 2-0 Pac-12). They will also wrestle at the Aloha Open in Honolulu on Dec. 30 before taking a short break. Their next dual is Jan. 10, 2015, against Stanford at Gill Coliseum.

The Beavers will take about 20-25 wrestlers to Reno. Team totals will be kept; only one competitor in each weight class will be counted toward the team total.
