Utah

The Utes kick the bowl season off for the Pac-12 with a Las Vegas Bowl showdown with Colorado State Saturday (12:30 p.m. PT/1:30 p.m. MT, ABC), and it looks like the national media are picking Utah to win. And check this out – after marrying his wife last Friday, the Las Vegas Bowl is a nice honeymoon for Utah tight end Westlee Tonga (Salt Lake Trib on both links).

Oregon

Tough break for the Ducks – Oregon head coach Mark Helfrich confirmed Thursday that cornerback Ifo Ekpre-Olomu will miss the College Football Playoff. Also, great stuff from Chantel Jennings, who spoke with Charlie Papé and his O’Hara Catholic School classmates to talk Oregon and the College Football Playoff. Papé was the 12-year-old student reporter who quipped about “Jesus, girls and Marcus Mariota” earlier this season.

Stanford

Oh those Nittany Lions, they’ll ruin your mood. Stanford women’s volleyball lost in the national semifinal to Penn State in four sets Thursday night in Oklahoma City (25-16, 23-25, 25-22, 25-21). Penn State beat the Card in the 2007 and 2008 national championship matches.

Oregon State

Hey now… Oregon State men’s basketball is 8-2 after thumping DePaul 90-59 Thursday night. The Beavs haven’t exactly played murderers’ row, but still, who saw the Beavs getting out to an 8-2 start? Victor Robbins scored a career-high 27 points off the bench for Tinkle’s Team.

UCLA

Wanna see a battle of college basketball blue bloods? Look no further than UCLA taking on No. 1 Kentucky in Chicago on Saturday (12:30 p.m. PT, CBS). The game is part of the CBS Sports Classic; North Carolina plays THE Ohio State University in the other game.

Arizona State

The Associated Press reports that the Arizona Board of Regents has approved a contract extension for Arizona State men’s basketball coach Herb Sendek. The Sun Devils and Sendek agreed to a three-year extension after last season, but the Board did add some provisions to the deal. Click the link for the deets.

California

Jeff Faraudo reports that former Cal quarterback Zach Kline is transferring to Indiana State. He was most recently at Butte Community College.

Colorado

Colorado football signed three junior college transfers – defensive tackle Jordan Carrell, defensive end Blake Robbins and defensive back Afolabi Laguda.

Washington

Washington basketball guard Nigel Williams-Goss previews the Washington-Oklahoma game going down Saturday in Sin City (6 p.m. PT, ESPNU).

USC

Los Angeles Times scribe Gary Klein features USC wide receiver George Farmer. Dude balled out against Notre Dame, hauling in two of Cody Kessler’s six touchdown passes. He’s had to overcome injury troubles and a position change, but he’s doin’ his thing in 2014.

Arizona

Luke Winn of Sports Illustrated analyzes Arizona basketball’s offense, among other things, in this link.

Washington State

Washington State basketball freshman Trevor Dunbar teaches us some of his skillz. Look at that crossover tho.
