Charles Nelson gets horizontal, just comes up short of TD
Oregon’s first scoring drive was just your typical Oregon scoring drive – nine plays, 73 yards, 2:11 off the clock and one jaw-dropping play.
First, there’s the perfectly-pitched lateral by Mariota a couple of yards down the field to wide receiver Charles Nelson. Then there’s Nelson flying over Florida State defensive back Nate Andrews to try to punch it in the end zone, getting completely horizontal in mid-air.
Nelson came up inches short of the goal line, but the Ducks would punch it in two plays later and to take an 8-3 lead (because of course Oregon went for two).
This isn’t a bad action shot, either.

Nelson is from Daytona Beach, Florida., which is about a four-hour drive from Tallahassee. According to The Daytona Beach News-Journal, Nelson was a Florida State fan growing up, but the Seminoles did not offer him a scholarship.
The freshman receiver and the rest of the Ducks have one more game to play after defeating Florida State 59-20 Thursday. Oregon will now play the winner of the Alabama-Ohio State semifinal matchup in the College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday, Jan. 12 at AT&T Stadium.
