Man, how ‘bout that performance from Oregon at the Rose Bowl, huh? The Ducks smashed Florida State 59-20 to move on to the College Football Playoff National Championship against Ohio State, and Andy Staples of SI writes that Oregon shed the “soft” label in its rout of Florida State. Meanwhile, Bruce Feldman writes that Oregon football showed it’s more than Marcus Mariota in the win over the ‘Noles. He was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 1997, when he was only in his mid-20s, but received his last cancer treatment on April 20, 1998.
Arizona State men’s hoops doesn’t get conference play started until Sunday when it takes on rival Arizona, and Andrew Murawa of Rush The Court discusses Arizona State’s lineup changes as it heads into conference play.

USC men’s hoops opens up against Utah Friday night in the SLC (7 p.m. PT/8 p.m. MT, ESPNU), and the Trojans are looking to improve against Pac-12 teams, writes Scott Wolf of the Los Angeles Daily News. USC enters Pac-12 play sporting an 8-4 record and is playing some of its best basketball of the young season, winning seven of its last eight.
The NFL playoffs also start this weekend, and Brandon Judd of the Deseret News features former Ute and current Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Brice McCain. The Steelers take on the Ravens Saturday in a wildcard matchup.
