Pac-12 Ties Conference Record With Six Bowl Wins
OREGON advanced to the first-ever CFP National Championship Game with its 59-20 semifinal win over Florida State in the Rose Bowl presented by Northwestern Mutual... Oregon plays for the national title for the second time in five years (lost to Auburn in the BCS championship game following the 2010 season, 22-19)... The Ducks are winless in eight previous meetings with Ohio State, including two Rose Bowl games (1958: 10-7 and 2010: 26-17)... The Pac-12 is 6-1 vs. the Big Ten this season, and 2-0 in bowl games - USC defeated Nebraska, 45-42, in the National University Holiday Bowl, and STANFORD defeated Maryland, 45-10, in the Foster Farms Bowl... The Pac-12 is 1-2 in AT&T Stadium (No. 6 TCU def. No. 24 Oregon State, 30-21 in 2010; No. 4 LSU def. No. 3 Oregon, 40-27 in 2011; UCLA def. Texas, 20-17 in 2014)
The Pac-12 has posted a 6-2 record in the postseason, matching last year’s Conference-record six bowl wins. Over the last three postseasons, the Pac-12 has posted a 16-9 record.
The Pac-12 averaged 40.3 points per game in eight bowl games, with four Pac-12 teams scoring 45 or more points, most among all conferences. Twelve teams scored 45 or more points during the bowl season (Pac-12: 4; Conf. USA, MAC and SEC 2; American, ACC 1). OREGON set a Rose Bowl record for most points scored with 59.
ARIZONA STATE freshman Demario Richard scored four touchdowns (2 rush/2 rec) to equal a school bowl record and tie for second among Pac-12 bowl records behind Oregon State’s Steven Jackson’s five touchdowns in the 2003 Las Vegas Bowl.
STANFORD senior Kevin Hogan became first Cardinal starting quarterback to win two bowl games (also 2013 Rose Bowl) as he led the Cardinal to a school bowl game record 45 points in the win over Maryland.
OREGON: With the 59-20 Rose Bowl victory, Oregon won its school-record 13th game of the season. The 59 points were the most ever scored in the Rose Bowl (101 games)... Has now won 10 or more games in seven straight seasons, tied for the fifth-longest streak of college football’s modern era... Has won four Pac-12 titles over the last six years... Has won nine straight since dropping the home game to Arizona on Oct. 2, scoring 40 or more points in each of those nine games (49.2 ppg)... At 47.2 points per game this season, is on pace to lead the Pac-12 in scoring for the eighth consecutive season... Junior QB Marcus Mariota became the sixth FBS player in history to pass for at least 9,000 yards and rush for 2,000 or more yards in a career. Mariota has extended his Pac-12 single season record for total touchdowns at 56 (40 pass, 15 rush, 1 rec). His 10 games with four or more touchdowns is the most in the FBS this season. The 40 TD passes is a Pac-12 single-season mark. Mariota has passed for multiple TDs in 14 straight games - the longest active streak in the FBS... Mariota’s passing efficiency rating is 184.4, which is currently the best single-season rating in Pac-12 history... Mariota needs 146 yards of total offense to pass Oregon State’s Sean Mannion for the Pac-12 career total offense record set earlier this season (12,796)... Royce Freeman became the first true freshman to rush for 1,000 yards in a season at Oregon. His 1,343 rushing yards are the second-most by a freshman in Pac-12 history, trailing former Duck LaMichael James (1,546 in 2009)... The Ducks sport the best overall record in college football this decade at 60-7 (89.6%). UO’s 81% success rate vs. top 25 opponents (17-4) is also the best in the land. Fifty-three of UO’s 60 victories since 2010 (88.3%) have been by 14 or more points.
ARIZONA: Captured its third 10-plus-win season in school history (1993 and 1998)... Sophomore All-America LB Scooby Wright III had a league-best 163 tackles this season, including an FBS-leading 29.0 tackles for loss and 14.0 sacks along with six forced fumbles... Nick Wilson has rushed for 1,375 yards to set a UA freshman record and fourth-best in program history... Freshman QB Anu Solomon has thrown for 3,793 yards, which rankssecond-most in UA single-season history. His 28 passing TDs are tied with Nick Foles (2011) and Willie Tuitama (2007) for most in UA single-season history.
ARIZONA STATE: Posted back-to-back 10-win seasons for the first time since 1970-73... Junior WR Jaelen Strong finished tied for sixth on ASU’s single-season list with 10 touchdown receptions in 2014, and is 10th on the school’s single-season receiving yards list with 1,165 yards... Senior QB Taylor Kelly has a school-record 10,223 career yards of total offense and set the ASU career record for rushing yards by a quarterback with 1,404 yards.
CALIFORNIA: Cal set the school single-season record for team passing yards with 4,152 yards. The Bears also set school records for points in the modern era (459)... Sophomore QB Jared Goff has 15 multi-passing touchdown in his career, with 10 games of notching at least three touchdown passes. He extended his school single-season record for passing yards (3,973) and touchdown passes (35).
COLORADO: The Buffs also set single-season marks for plays (996), first downs (296), passing first downs (159), pass attempts (545), completions (348), yards (3,415) and touchdown passes (29)... Junior WR Nelson Spruce set CU single-season records in receptions (106) and touchdowns (12), with his 1,198 yards the second-most in CU history... QB Sefo Liufau finished his sophomore season with 325 completions in 498 attempts for 3,200 yards, 28 touchdowns and a 65.3 completion percentage, all CU single-season records; he also set the season mark for total offense (3,336).
OREGON STATE: Senior QB Sean Mannion closed out his Pac-12 career as the Conference’s top passer with 13,600 career passing yards. That’s eighth all-time in the FBS. He also currently owns the top spot on the Pac-12’s all-time list for total offense at 12,796 yards in total offense... Gary Anderson was named OSU’s new head coach on December 10, 2014.
STANFORD: The Cardinal are second in the FBS in scoring defense, allowing 16.4 points per game... Stanford led the Pac-12 in rushing defense (104.5 avg) for the fourth consecutive season... Senior K Jordan Williamson set a school record with 77 consecutive extra points made... Junior OT Andrus Peat earned first team FWAA All-America. The fifth consecutive year that a Stanford offensive lineman has earned All-America honors.
UCLA: Junior QB Brett Hundley is UCLA’s all-time leader in total offense (11,713 yards) and touchdown passes (75)... Senior All-America LB Eric Kendricks set the UCLA career tackles record with 481... Sophomore RB Paul Perkins had six 100-yard rushing games this season. His 1,575 yards rushing is second on UCLA’s single-season rushing list... The Bruins were the only FBS team to win two non-conference road games against FBS opponents.
USC: Junior QB Cody Kessler has completed 315-of-452 passes (69.7%) for 3,826 yards with 39 TDs and just 5 interceptions. His 69.7% completion percentage and 167.1 passing efficiency are USC single-season records... Junior WR Nelson Agholor now has 104 receptions this year, good for third on USC’s single-season chart... Senior PK Andre Hedari set Pac-12 career marks for PAT attempts (193) and makes (187).
UTAH: Coach Kyle Whittingham has made nine bowl appearances, most among all Pac-12 coaches... Junior All-America P Tom Hackett leads the nation in punt average (46.7 yds)... Junior RB Devontae Booker leads the Pac-12 in carries (292) and has rushed for 1,512 yards (112.5 avg), second on the school’s all-time single-season list... Senior All-America DE Nate Orchard’s posted a school single-season record 18.5 sacks and leads the nation in sacks per game (1.42).
WASHINGTON: Chris Petersen became the fastest active coach to 100 wins... Senior All-America LB Hau’oli Kikaha, who has broken both the UW season and career sacks records, leads the nation with 19.0 sacks and is second the nation in tackles for loss (25.0)... Kikaha, senior DL Danny Shelton and junior Shaq Thompson were named AP first team All-America, marking the first time in Husky history the UW has had more than two players on the squad in the same season.
WASHINGTON STATE: Set Pac-12 single-season team passing marks for attempts (771), completions (510), and yards (5,732)... Senior WR Vince Mayle set WSU single-season records for catches (106) and yards (1,483)... Senior QB Connor Halliday, who suffered a season-ending injury in game nine, concluded his career as WSU’s all-time leader in touchdown passes (90) and passing yards (11,304 yards). He owns 21 career 300-yard performances, twelve 400-yard games, five 500-yard games, 15 four-TD performances including six 5-TD games and three 6-TD games.
