UW Men’s Crew Nominated For 2015 Sports Story of the Year

SEATTLE – After winning its fourth straight IRA National Championship, UW men’s crew was nominated by the Seattle Sports Commission (SSC) for Sports Story of the Year. The award is decided by fan voting, which ends this Wednesday, Jan. 14.

Nominees are selected by the Sports Star Committee, which is compiled of local sports historians, media and others active in the sports industry.

Voting opened Dec. 15, 2014 and closes this Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2015 at 5 p.m. PST.  Winners are announced during the 2015 MTR Western Sports Star of the Year Awards on Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2015 at Benaroya Hall. 

Every January, this event honors the athletes, coaches, media figures and stories in or from Washington State for their achievements during the previous year. Since its creation in 1936, there have been nearly 100 Sports Stars honored at this event. Once an individual has been named a Sports Star, he or she become part of an elite ensemble, that includes with some of the most notable sports icons in our region’s history.

Nominees for the Sports Story of the Year:

•   Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl

•   University of Washington Men's Crew 4th Consecutive National Championship 

•   Felix Hernandez leads Seattle Mariners Resurgence

•   Seattle Sounders FC win Supporters' Shield

•   Seattle Reign to the Championship Game
