CORVALLIS, Ore. - The Oregon State women’s basketball team jumped up four spots in this week’s USA Today/WBCA Coaches’ Poll, moving up to No. 9, the highest ranking in school history. The Beaver’s previous high ranking came in 1996, when the Beavers came in at No. 11.

The release of the Coaches’ Poll comes one day after the Beavers also came in at No. 9 in the Associated Press Rankings, also the highest ranking in school history.

The Beavers are coming off a sweep of Oregon in the Civil War presented by PacificSource Health Plans, The Oregon 529 College Savings Network, McDonalds, Spirit Mountain Casino and Your Local Ford Stores. Oregon State got things started with a dominant 70-37 victory over the Ducks, holding Oregon to 24.1 percent shooting and allowing the lowest point total in the history of the Civil War. The Beavers then followed that up by defeating the Ducks 77-48 on Sunday. With the two victories, the Beavers have now defeated Oregon nine consecutive times.

Oregon State’s 14-1 record is the best in school history through the first 15 games of the season, and OSU’s four-consecutive Pac-12 wins to start the conference slate is its best ever start to Pac-12 play. The Beavers’ season has been highlighted by a number of big wins, including a road win over then No. 6/6 North Carolina, and the second ever road-sweep of the Los Angeles schools in Oregon State history.

Ruth Hamblin leads the way for the Beavers this season, averaging 13.5 points and 9.1 rebounds, after putting up 23 points against Oregon on Sunday. Sydney Wiese is close behind her with 13.4 points per game.

The Beavers are back in action Friday, when they host Washington State at Gill Coliseum.
