Pac-12 announces weekly gymnastics honors

Jan 19, 2015

San Francisco – The Pac-12 Conference office announced today the Pac-12 women’s gymnastics weekly honors for the week of Jan. 12-18. UTAH’s Georgia Dabritz was named the Gymnast of the Week, STANFORD’s Ivana Hong was voted Specialist of the Week, and CALIFORNIA’s Toni-Ann Williams was selected as the Freshman/Newcomer of the Week.

Utah senior Georgia Dabritz earned Gymnast of the Week honors for her performance in the Utes meet with Southern Utah, Boise State and UC Davis on Jan. 16. Darbitz won the all-around with a 39.60 and won two individual events to lead No. 4 Utah to a quad meet victory. Dabritz’s 39.60 narrowly missed her career high of 39.70 set her sophomore season. She also won on the bars with a 9.925 and on the floor with a 9.95, and finished second on the other two events. Dabritz is currently No. 1 in the nation in all-around individual score and the second Ute to earn Pac-12 Gymnast of the Week honors this season.

Stanford junior Ivana Hong earned Specialist of the Week honors for her work on the beam and the bars in the Cardinal’s meet with Penn and Bridgeport on Jan. 18. Hong scored a collegiate-best 9.950 on bars and a 9.900 on beam to earn a pair of individual event victories. Hong’s score on beam was just 0.025 off from her career best, and her score of 9.950 on bars contributed to No. 16 Stanford’s beam score of 49.475 – the team’s highest score in the event since 2007.

California freshman Toni-Ann Williams earned Freshman/Newcomer of the Week honors for her performance against San Jose State and University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Jan. 16, helping the No. 17 Golden Bears move to 7-0 on the year. Williams set new career-highs on vault, bars, and beam and claimed the title on all three events, nearly sweeping the meet. Williams’ 9.875 on bars won her the title and helped the Bears secure a season-best 49.150 team score on the event. She also earned her third consecutive floor win of the season with a 9.925. In her first try at the all-around, Williams finished third.

A gymnast of the week has been selected every week of the season since 2001. The Specialist of the Week award was added in 2008. It is the third year for Freshman/Newcomer of the Week.
