Beavers Move Up to 8th in Coaches’ Poll

Jan 20, 2015

CORVALLIS – The Oregon State women’s basketball team is ranked eighth in this week’s USA Today/WBCA Coaches’ Poll, which was announced today. The ranking is the highest in school history, surpassing last week’s No. 9 ranking.

The Beavers came in at No. 9 in yesterday’s Associated Press Poll, matching the best ranking in school history.

Oregon State continued its outstanding start to the 2014-15 season this week, beating Washington State and Washington to improve to 16-1 on the season and 6-0 in Pac-12 play. The Beavers have also won 17 consecutive home games, in a stretch that dates back to 2013. Oregon State overcame a 16-point second half deficit to beat the Cougars 73-70 on Friday. Ruth Hamblin led the way with 31 points, 16 rebounds and seven blocks, while Jamie Weisner put up 25 points. OSU followed that up with another hard-fought contest against the Huskies, going back and forth with Washington before finally taking the win by a score of 75-68. It was again Weisner and Hamblin leading the way, as Weisner put up 26 points and Hamblin tallied 19.

Oregon State is second in the nation in field goal percentage defense at 32.3 percent, and is second in assists per game with 21.2. The Beavers are one of just seven teams in the nation with a winning percentage of .941 or higher.

Oregon State heads down to the Grand Canyon State this week for matchups with Arizona and Arizona State. The Beavers will take on the Wildcats on Friday before facing off with the No. 12/13 Sun Devil on Sunday. Both games will be carried live on Pac-12 Networks.
