Evanston, Ill. – No. 32 Arizona State women’s tennis team falls to No. 44 Kentucky 4-2 in the Championship Round of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend.

“First off, I just want to congratulate Kentucky on playing a very good match,” said ASU head coach Sheila McInerney. “We jumped out to a nice lead and they kept coming at us to win the match. We wish them good luck at the National Indoors.”

ASU grabbed the early point in doubles as junior Ebony Panoho and sophomore Alexandra Osborne defeated Morin-Kougoucheff and Lewis 6-1. Junior Desirae Krawczyk and junior Stephanie Vlad also came through with a 6-1 victory against Ravita and Sutjiadi.

Kentucky took a commanding 3-1 lead before ASU’s sophomore Kassidy Jump defeated Kelsey Dieters, 6-4, 2-6, 6-1 to make it 3-2. ASU could not come back in another nail biter as Kentucky closed out the day, 4-2.

“I think we can really take a lot of positives from this match,” said head coach McInerney. “Both the Northwestern match and the Kentucky match were nail biters, everyone had to dig deep. Today did not finish like we wanted but I believe it will help us down the road.”

Up next, the Sun Devils will be back in Tempe, Ariz. to face No. 31 Ohio State on Sunday, Feb. 1 at Noon MT.
