Beavers Hit Season-High 196.450 at Stanford

STANFORD, Calif. – Oregon State scored a season-high but fell to Stanford in a Pac-12 dual 197.000-196.450. Madeline Gardiner scored 39.025 to finish second in the all-around as the Beavers scored season-highs on three events.

“Overall I’m happy with this performance. We had a tough week with seven of our competitors out with a stomach virus this week,” head coach Tanya Chaplin said. “I’m pleased with how they fought and put together an improved score. Now I’m looking forward to putting together a complete meet.”

Opening the meet on the uneven bars, freshman Shireen Khamedoost scored a personal-best 9.875 early in the lineup to help set the tone for a high-scoring meet. Chelsea Tang added a career-best 9.925 while Erika Aufiero scored 9.825 and Kaytianna McMillan tallied 9.80 as the Beavers pieced together a season-high 49.200.

Trailing 49.325-49.200 following the opening rotation, the Beavers headed to the vault seeking to carry their momentum. All six OSU vaulters posted season or career-bests with Taylor Keeker leading the way with a 9.925 while Madeline Gardiner and Aufiero posted matching scores of 9.90. Taylor Ricci scored a 9.825 in her first official collegiate routine and the Beavers scored another season-best 49.375.

Behind at the halfway point 98.675-98.575 the Beavers moved to the floor exercise. Risa Perez tumbled to a career-high tying 9.875 and Tang and Nicole Turner each scored 9.825 and OSU settled for a floor total of 49.025.

Finishing on balance beam, Tang scored a season-best tying 9.875 while Silvia Colussi-Pelaez set a career-high with a 9.85. Gardiner added a 9.80 and the Beavers finished the night with a 48.850 on the event.

“The team is looking forward to getting back to compete at Gill Coliseum for the next two weeks. We’ll be glad to be home.”

Oregon State returns to Corvallis and the friendly confines of Gill Coliseum later this week when the Beavers host a quad meet with Pacific Northwest rival Washington, Sacramento State and Hamline University Friday at 7 p.m.
