Jan 27, 2015

CORVALLIS – The Oregon State women’s basketball team jumped one spot in the USA Today/WBCA Coaches’ Poll, coming in at No. 7, the highest ranking in school history. The Beavers’ previous high was set last week, when the team came in at No. 8.

Oregon State is also ranked 7 in the AP Poll, which was released yesterday.

OSU has continued its ascent up both polls this season, beginning the year ranked No. 20/21 and climbing steadily from there to reach this week’s No. 7/7 ranking.

The Beavers are coming off a convincing 68-57 win at No. 12/13 Arizona State on Sunday, as Oregon State took over sole possession of first-place in the Pac-12 with a perfect 8-0 conference record. The win was the Beavers’ first in Tempe since 1996. Oregon State also opened the weekend by defeating Arizona 73-55 in Tucson.

Overall, the Beavers are 18-1 this season, their best ever record through 19 games.

For her performance this week, junior Jamie Weisner was named ESPNW National Player of the Week. The Clarkston, Wash., native scored 21 points against Arizona State on Sunday, after opening her week with a 26-point performance on Monday.

Oregon State is back in action Saturday, when it hosts USC at Gill Coliseum.
