Pac-12 announces weekly gymnastics honors

The Pac-12 Conference office announced today the Pac-12 women’s gymnastics weekly honors for the week of Jan. 27 - Feb. 1. UTAH’s Georgia Dabritz was named the Gymnast of the Week, UCLA’s Peng-Peng Lee was voted Specialist of the Week, and CALIFORNIA’s Toni-Ann Williams was selected as the Freshman/Newcomer of the Week.

Utah senior Georgia Dabritz earned gymnast of the week honors for the second time this season after her performance in the Utes’ victory over Arizona on Jan. 31. Dabritz opened the meet with a perfect 10.0 on the bars and won three events and the all-around to lead the team. Her 39.70 all-around score is tied for the eighth best in Utah history. Dabritz is also the No. 1 all-arounder in the nation for the third week in a row this week. 

UCLA redshirt sophomore Christine Peng-Peng Lee earned Specialist of the Week honors for her performance in the Bruins’ meet against California on Feb. 1. Lee scored a pair of 9.95s on bars and beam to lead No. 11 UCLA to a season-high total of 196.800 in the victory over California. Both of Lee’s scores marked new career highs for the sophomore, who missed last season due to injury. She has now scored a 9.9 or higher on three of four bars routines this season.  

California freshman Toni-Ann Williams earned Freshman/Newcomer of the Week honors for the third week in a row this week. Williams made Golden Bear history on Sunday at UCLA, scoring No. 20 California’s first-ever 9.975 on vault to set a new program record. The performance helped Williams secure her spot as the ninth best vaulter in the nation. Williams also claimed her second consecutive all-around title with a 38.900 and was runner-up on floor with a 9.90.

A gymnast of the week has been selected every week of the season since 2001. The Specialist of the Week award was added in 2008. It is the third year for Freshman/Newcomer of the Week.
