Roundup: ASU to retire James Harden's jersey Wednesday

Arizona State is retiring James Harden’s jersey Wednesday night when the Sun Devils host UCLA (6 p.m. PT/7 p.m. MT, ESPN2), and Harden talked about how he matured at Arizona State with The Arizona Republic’s Paul Coro.


Big road trip here for the Bruins, and Jack Wang thinks that free throws could be a key for UCLA in the final stretch. UCLA has squarely played its way into tourney consideration after a rough stretch at the end of the non-conference schedule and beginning of conference play.

Oregon tells us that Marcus Mariota will throw Saturday at the NFL combine, and Jameis Winston will do the same. CBS Sports says Mariota will throw Sunday; either way, he’s throwing. Also, some somber news to deliver, as Oregon acrobatics and tumbling athlete Lauren Jones passed away unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon.


Notre Dame has officially added former Cal safety Avery Sebastian to its roster. Sebastian is taking advantage of the graduate transfer rule, so the Cal alum can play right away for the Golden Domers.

Washington State

Former Washington State basketball coach George Raveling will be inducted to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. Raveling coached the Cougs for more than a decade and took ‘em to the NCAA tourney twice, notes Jeff Collier of CougCenter.


Arizona basketball reserves Parker Jackson-Cartwright and Dusan Ristic have been cleared to practice, reports Bruce Pascoe of the Arizona Daily Star. No word yet on whether or not they will play Thursday against USC.

Oregon State

NFL Network insider Mike Mayock says former Oregon State quarterback Sean Mannion has to “hurry things up” if he wants to succeed at the next level.


Former USC running back Javorius Allen is projected as a mid-round NFL draft pick, while Nelson Agholor is expected to go in the second round, reports the Los Angeles Times.


Kyle Whittingham hired Lewis Powell to be the Utah tight ends coach, it was announced Tuesday. Powell played for the Utes from 2001-03 and was named the defensive MVP of the 2003 Liberty Bowl.
