Several Season Bests Set on Day Two of Pac-12 Championships

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - The Bruins had numerous season bests on Thursday during the second day of the Pac-12 Championships at Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center, as junior Katy Campbell, sophomore Linnea Mack and freshman Maria Polyakova all made finals.

500 Freestyle
Campbell made the A final thanks to a preliminary swim of 4:42.21, the seventh-fastest time in the morning. Senior Ally Loper set an NCAA 'B' qualifying time with a season-best 4:46.53, the 11th-best mark, to reach the B race, while freshman Natalie Amberg was 21st with a season-best 4:54.40 to advance to the C final. Another Bruin to set a season best was senior Kacey Milligan, who had a 4:49.17 in an exhibition swim.

Campbell improved to sixth in the final with a near identical swim of 4:42.53. Loper was fourth in the B race (12th overall), bettering her NCAA 'B' mark with a 4:45.83. Amberg was also fourth (20th overall), going 4:52.19 in the C race, more than two minutes quicker than her prelim time.

200 Individual Medley
A pair of Bruins qualified for the B final, as junior Arlyn Upshaw had the 12th-best time in the morning with a career-best 1:59.80, while senior Noelle Tarazona posted the 13th-best mark with a season-best 2:00.47. Freshman MK Kish made the C race with a season-best 2:03.66 (21st) in the prelims. In an exhibition swim, sophomore Nina Hayes swam a lifetime best of 2:03.71.

In the B final, Tarazona was third (11th overall) with a 1:59.45 to improve her NCAA 'B' time, while Upshaw placed fifth (13th) with a 2:01.00. Kish was fifth in the C race and 21st overall with a 2:03.80 in the evening session.

50 Freestyle
Mack advanced to the A final with a time of 22.42, the fifth-best mark in the prelims. Senior Monica Dornick went for a career best in the morning with a 22.61, good for 10th and a spot in the B race. Freshman Sarah Kaunitz had to swim twice in the morning to make the evening session. She first swam a season best 23.16, which tied for 24th, and in the subsequent swim-off, Kaunitz improved on her season best with a 23.08 to make the C final. Other top swims in the prelims for the Bruins included freshman Katie Grover (season-best 23.19), sophomore Madison White (career-best 23.21), junior Katie Kinnear (23.31) and junior Madison Applegate (season-best 23.45).

Mack swam even faster in the evening with a 22.13 to finish tied for third. Dornick was also third (11th overall) in the B race with a 22.63. Kaunitz placed 22nd overall and sixth in the C final with a 23.22.

3-Meter Diving
Polyakova was first following the initial six preliminary dives with a score of 340.80, more than 20 points clear of her closest competitor to sail into the evening final. Sophomore Annika Lenz was 17th (250.90), followed by sophomore Danni Repper (22nd, 233.45) and freshman Ciara Monahan (24th, 228.95).

Polyakova almost matched her prelim score in the final with a 337.95, but it was only good enough for fourth in the evening.

200 Freestyle Relay
The Bruins were fifth, as Dornick, Mack, White and Grover posted a time of 1:30.42. 

Competition continues on Friday at 11 a.m. with the prelims for the 400 IM, 100 Butterfly, 200 Free, 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke and 1-Meter Diving. The finals begin at 6 p.m., wrapping up with the 400 Medley Relay.
