T&F?s McBride Wins Long Jump Title In MPSF Opening Day

SEATTLE, Wash.—Arizona State track and field’s redshirt senior Bryan McBride won the men’s long jump on Friday in the opening day of competition at the MPSF Indoor Track and Field Championships at the University of Washington’s Dempsey Indoor.

McBride’s winning mark came on his second attempt, when he jumped 7.79m (25-6.75), a new personal best, which now sits at No. 5 in ASU’s indoor record book, ahead of Matt Zuber’s (1990) mark of 7.73m (25-4.50), and behind the No. 4 mark, of 7.84m (25-.9.00), which Kenny Frazier jumped in 1984.

On the women’s side, ASU raced it’s fourth-best DMR, as sophomore Chelsey Totten, freshman Melese Crozier, redshirt senior Paisley Pettway, and senior Shelby Houlihan ran 11:20.80. The Sun Devil team finished third overall and earned six team points.

The ASU women earned nine total points in the weight throw, six from redshirt freshman Magdalyn Ewen, who finished in third with a throw of 19.21m (63-0.25), while Ashley Weber placed sixth and earned three points with a throw of 18.04m (59-2.25). Redshirt senior Ashley Weber threw a season best mark of 16.54m (54-0.25).

Senior Brianna Tate placed seventh in the 200m dash with a time of 24.26, which earned two points, while redshirt senior Devan Spann earned eight points in the men’s race with his second-place finish at 21.11.

The men’s DMR team of juniors Michael Julian and Sterling Winston, and redshirt juniors Trevor Landry and Daniel Wong earned a pair of points as they finished seventh at 10:05.86.

The men’s team picked up 20 points on the day and sits in eighth in the team race, while the women’s team earned 17.33 points and is currently in sixth. Washington leads the men’s team race with 32.50 points, while UCLA leads the women’s competition with 51 points.

Up next, the competition at the MPSF Indoor Track and Field Championships continues on Saturday. Action begins with the women’s shot put at 10:30 a.m. PT/11:30 a.m. MT.
