Tinkle Named Semifinalist For Naismith COY

CORVALLIS, Ore. – Oregon State men’s basketball head coach Wayne Tinkle was named a semifinalist for the Naismith National Coach of the Year, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Wednesday.

The finalists will be revealed on Thursday, March 19 and the winner will be announced on Sunday, April 5.

In his first year at Oregon State, Tinkle has led the Beavers to a 17-12 overall record and 8-9 mark in Pac-12 play. Some of the highlights of the season include a 15-1 record at Gill Coliseum, an upset over No. 7 Arizona and wins over Arizona, UCLA and Washington for the first time in a season since 1989-90.

Oregon State has set school records for best start at home (14-0), most victories at home (15), most blocked shots by a team in a game (13) and most blocked shots by a player in a game (7, Gary Payton (II). The Beavers are on pace to set school records for best scoring defense, field goal percentage defense and 3-point field goal percentage defense.

The Beavers have clinched their third winning season in 25 years and have a chance to finish league play at .500 for just the second time since 1990. Oregon State will host Oregon at 8 p.m. on Wednesday in the 344th Civil War, presented by PacificSource Health Plans, The Oregon 529 College Savings Network, McDonalds, Spirit Mountain Casino and Your Local Ford Stores.
