NORTHRIDGE, Calif. - UCLA used 13 hits, including three with three RBI by senior Stephany LaRosa, and 8 1/3 innings of shutout relief with 11 strikeouts by senior Ally Carda, to record a 6-4, 10-inning victory at CSUN on Thursday at Matador Diamond.

The Bruins, in their first extra-inning game of the year, improve to 30-6 overall, while the Matadors fall to 25-10.

Five different Bruins had multiple-hit games, as Carda, senior Gracie Goulder, junior Brittany Moeai and sophomore Gabrielle Maurice each had a pair of hits.

In the circle, Carda improved to 16-3 with her fifth double-figure strikeout game of the season. She allowed just two hits and two walks, posting three strikeouts in the fourth and two in the eighth and 10th. Carda had 1-2-3 innings in the third, sixth, seventh, ninth and 10th, setting down the last eight of the contest. Freshman Johanna Grauer started and allowed four runs, three hits and one walk in 1 2/3 innings.

The Bruins scored a pair in their first ups. Carda led off with a single through the 3-4 hole, and two outs later, freshman Maddy Jelenicki walked. LaRosa followed with a triple to right-center to plate both Carda and Jelenicki to put UCLA up.

CSUN rallied with four in the second. Savannah Horvath led off with a walk, moved to second on a Cortney Horne sacrifice and stole third. Ariana Wassmer doubled to left-center to score Horvath to make it 2-1. One out later, Maylynn Mitchell doubled to left-center to bring in Wassmer to even things at two. After a single by Kaitlin Toerner, who moved to second on the throw home, a passed ball brought in Mitchell to give the Matadors the lead. That was followed by a wild pitch to bring in Toerner to make it 4-2.

The Bruins scratched across a run in the fifth. With one out, freshman Kylee Perez walked and Maurice singled to left. One out later, LaRosa doubled to left to bring in Perez to make it 4-3, but the Bruins would also leave the bases loaded.

In the seventh, the Bruins were down to their last out before rallying. With two outs, LaRosa doubled to right, and was pinch-run for by sophomore Robyn Corruth, who scored on a Moeai single up the middle to even the score at four.

After scoreless eighth and ninth innings, the Bruins scored twice in the 10th. Goulder led off by reaching on a throwing error by Mitchell at third and junior Allexis Bennett bunted for a single. Carda then singled up the middle to bring home Goulder to put the Bruins up 5-4. A bunt single for Perez loaded the bases, and one out later, Jelenicki lifted a sacrifice fly to left to score Bennett to put UCLA ahead by two.

The Bruins are off until next weekend when they take on Oregon at Easton Stadium. The series starts on Friday, April 3 at 5 p.m. and continues on Saturday, April 4 at 2 p.m., with both of those games broadcast on Pac-12 Networks. The Sunday, April 5 contest at 12 p.m. will be on ESPN2. All three games will also feature free audio and live stats on UCLABruins.com.
