Washington's Yang Pac-12 women's golfer of the month
SAN FRANCISCO – Jennifer Yang of WASHINGTON has been named the Pac-12 Women’s Golfer of the Month for March, the Pac-12 announced today.
Yang led No. 1 Washington to a pair of team victories and in the process earned the first individual title of her collegiate career. The month started well for the Huskies during their appearance at the Bruin/Wave Invitational. In a tough week where everyone was over par, Yang was consistent, opening with a 3-over 75, before an even-par second round and clos-ing with a 4-over 76. She finished the tournament with a T-5th place finish, leading the Huskies to a nine-stroke win.
The greatness continued as Washington broke a school record, winning its sixth team championship of the season at the Bay Area Invite. Yang recorded the team leading score for a second-straight week, this time tying Esther Lee of Colorado for medalist honors. She finished at 7-under 206, leading the Dawgs to a week of 18-under and a 24-stroke gap on the rest of the field. Yang opened with a 1-over 72, but then caught fire with rounds of 5-under 66 and 3-under 68 to chase down Colorado’s Lee over the final nine holes. Yang is now the 11th-ranked player in the country according to golfstat with a scoring average of 72.15 and the 77th-ranked amateur in the world. A native of Busan, South Korea, this is Yang’s first career golfer of the month award, and the first time Washington has had an athlete selected since 2013.
