SEATTLE – Washington Women’s Rowing takes on in-state rival Washington State this Friday, April 10, in Pullman, Wash., at the annual Apple Cup dual between the Huskies and the Cougars.
“It’s the Apple Cup, this is always a big deal,” UW women’s rowing head coach Bob Ernst said. “Going to Pullman to race is always an adventure. You can get any kind of weather that you could possibly imagine. WSU is really good, they go to the NCAA’s almost every year. We have a lot of overlap in our recruiting. This will be a good traveling opportunity for our team and the Cougars are really good on their home course.”
The Huskies are coming off a dominant performance at the Oregon State Classic that saw Washington win five of its six races, including a sweep of defending Pac-12 champion Stanford in the morning session.
“I was so pleased with the way we performed last weekend at the Oregon State Classic and began our season on a great note,” Ernst said. “This is another really important chance for us to get faster and develop our young talent.”
WSU women’s crew swept Gonzaga in a dual race last weekend, winning the first and second varsity eights, the varsity four and the novice eight. WSU took 14th at last year’s NCAA Championships. In 2014, the Cougars visited Seattle, where Washington swept WSU.
Originally scheduled for Saturday, April 11, the WSU women’s dual has officially been rescheduled and will begin at 4:00 p.m. PT on Friday, April 10, due to projected weather conditions.
