Moeakiola Named To Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List

TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil Football redshirt junior linebacker Laiu Moeakiola has been named to the watch list for the Lott IMPACT Trophy, the Pacific Club IMPACT Foundation announced Friday.

Moeakiola, one of 42 student-athletes represented on the list, embodies someone who excels in the classroom, on the field and around the community. IMPACT stands for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity, and is awarded to those who have a positive influence both on and off the field.

Moeakiola, who is from Euless, Texas, was a 2014 All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention recipient as he recorded 72 tackles, including 10.5 for loss and five sacks. He started all 13 games in 2014 and also added one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He was a team captain in 2014 and earned the Frank Kush Captains Award at the team’s annual banquet.

A two-year letterwinner and educational studies major, Moeakiola is a two-time Pac-12 All-Academic honoree, and has earned Scholar Baller® recognition in numerous semesters, an honor awarded to student-athletes who achieve a 3.0 GPA or higher during the semester. He is also heavily involved in a number of Sun Devil Football’s community outreach and service initiatives, including the Scholar Baller Outreach Program.

Sun Devil safety Alden Darby was a quarterfinalist for the award in 2013, and linebacker Brandon Magee and defensive lineman Lawrence Guy were named to the award’s watch list in 2012 and 2010, respectively.

The 12th annual Lott IMPACT Trophy Award Banquet will be held Dec. 13 at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach. For more information about the Lott IMPACT Trophy and this year's Watch List, visit www.lottimpacttrophy.org.
