Stanford, USC to compete in men's tennis championship match

OJAI, Calif. - The top two seeds will battle it out as No. 1 STANFORD and No. 2 USC won their respective semifinal matches to advance to the Pac-12 Men’s Tennis Championship match. The Cardinal and the Trojans will face off tomorrow, Saturday, April 25 at 5 p.m. PT at Libbey Park. 

Both matches were close despite that three-point margin of victory, with the clinching singles matches going all three sets. Stanford opened the day with a 4-1 victory over rival CALIFORNIA, winning the doubles point then going on to gather victories on courts No. 1, 5 and 6. The Cardinal’s Nolan Paige clinched the victory for Stanford with a 2-6, 7-6(3), 7-5 victory over Cal’s Billy Griffith

The Trojans’ Max de Vroome clinched their match over rival UCLA later in the day, pulling out a 6-7, 6-1, 6-3 win over Bruin Austin Rapp on court No. 5. The Trojans also secured the doubles point in two quick matches, with Yannick Hanfmann and Roberto Quiroz earning an 8-0 victory on court No. 1 and Eric Johnson teaming with de Vroome for an 8-2 victory on court No. 2.
