No. 2 Hawai'i Defeats No. 8 UCLA, 4-1 in Semifinals

HONOLULU - The eighth-ranked UCLA Bruins (9-5) fell to No. 2 Hawai'i (16-1) in the semifinals of the team competition by a count of 4-1 on Saturday at the Aloha Invitational at Queen's Beach in Waikiki, Hawaii.

Hawai'i started things off with a come-from-behind win at No. 1 doubles when Brittany Tiegs and Nikki Taylor defeated UCLA's Kamila Tan and Zoë Nightingale, 15-21, 21-16, 15-13.

The Bruins tied things up at 1-1 with a comeback win of their own at the No. 2 flight as Elise Zappia and Madie Smith defeated the Sandbows' Katie Spieler and Olivia Urban, 15-21, 21-19, 15-12.

Hawai'i regained the lead at 2-1 when its No. 3 doubles team of Sammie Brown and Hannah Rooks defeated the Bruins' Julie Consani and Laurel Weaver, 21-16, 21-17.

The Sandbows clinched the team win at No. 4 doubles when Mikayla Tucker and Ka'iwi Schuct defeated the Bruins' Karly Drolson and Rachel Inouye in three sets, 16-21, 21-16, 15-10.

At No. 5 doubles, UH's Lara Schreiber and Heather Boyan defeated UCLA's Lexi Jasper-Baylin and Ivey Schmitt in straight sets, 21-15, 21-12 to provide the 4-1 team final.
