THIS WEEKEND: UCLA is at Arizona State in a top- of-the-standings matchup with the Bruins holding to a 2.0 game lead. The Bruins' pitching (1.93 in Pac-12 play) takes on ASU’s hitting (.290 in Pac-12 play)... Utah is at Oregon State, as the Beavers are 1.5 games out of third place... Washington is at Arizona, as the Wildcats won its first Pac-12 series since late March last weekend... Stanford is at USC, as the Trojans have held a Pac-12 opponent under five runs in 10 of 13 wins... Oregon is at Washington State as Cougar starter Joe Pistorese has a 2.43 ERA and two Pitcher of the Week honors in Pac-12 play... Cal is in North Carolina to take on 27-win Campbell out of the Big South
BY THE NUMBERS: OSU’s Jeff Hendrix enters the weekend on an 11-game hit streak and USC’s Timmy Robinson is on a nine-game streak... UCLA is 20-2 when holding an opponent to two runs or fewer and OSU is 21-0 in the same scenario.. UCLA has never lost (30-0) leading after eight thanks in part to David Berg’s 0.79 ERA, 5-1 record and 10 saves... ASU has scored in the first inning 21 times, winning 15 of those contests... the Sun Devils have also been in a number of close ones, going 14-6 in one-run games... USC is the top run producer with runners in scoring position, batting .324... USC has produced a Pac-12 high 93 two-out RBIs, Arizona (85) and Arizona State (81) are close behind.... the Bruins remain with the Pac-12’s top conference only ERA at 1.93, the next closest is Cal at 3.04... USC’s Bobby Stahel has a .441 average in Pac-12 play... starters WSU’s Ryan Walker (1.25) and Cal’s Daulton Jefferies (.135) each have sub-2.00 ERAs against Pac-12 opponents.
THIS WEEK’S RANKINGS: UCLA (33-11) dropped to No. 5 in Collegiate Baseball, California (29-15) moved up to No. 9, Arizona State (29-15) dropped to No. 10 and USC (32-14) and Oregon State (29-14) are No. 18 and No. 19 in the rankings. In Baseball America, UCLA remained at No. 2, Arizona State is now No. 9, USC is No. 15 and California returned to the rankings at No. 23.
