Axon Returns to Oregon to Face Thorns

CORVALLIS – Former Oregon State women’s soccer player Rachel Axon will return to the state of Oregon this weekend, as the Houston Dash take on Portland Thorns FC Saturday evening at Providence Park. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. PT, and will be streamed live online here.

Axon, who joined the Dash earlier this spring, has started all four games she’s played this season, scoring her first National Women’s Soccer League goal in the team’s last outing, May 15 against Chicago Red Stars.

This weekend’s matchup between the Thorns and the Dash would typically feature a pair of former Beavers, but Portland forward Jodi Taylor, who played alongside Axon in 2007, will not be with the squad due to her obligations with the English National Team.

A starting midfielder on two NCAA-tournament teams and a Pacific-10 Conference all-star as a senior in 2009 for the Beavers following her transfer from UAB, the 29-year-old London native signed with the Houston Dash after playing the past four seasons in the Norwegian Toppserien.

Axon tallied four goals and 11 assists in her three seasons with Oregon State, playing as a defender and a midfielder. She led the team in assists in 2007 and 2009.
